My Penpal is my Closest Friend
I've had my first pen pal when I was twelve. Ever since I've talked to so many different and incredibly interesting people all around the globe. I think I have learned a lot. Not only have I increased my language skills, I believe I've become a lot more tolerant and open-minded because I've learned so much about foreign cultures and mindsets.
5 years ago I got my first letter from this very special girl. It was an unusual one. Her english was strange to me and she was very smart, straightforward and didn't care much for flowery phrases and fake politeness. I was quite surprised. This was certainly not what I had expected from an Asian. At the beginning I didn't think it would last, to be honest. But I was definitely impressed and just had to reply to each letter in detail. Our letters started getting longer and longer. By now 20 pages are nothing extraordinary anymore.
Maybe it's because we're so similar. We've both battled depression and feel awkward around "normal" people. Writing seems to be an easy solution to this problem.
I haven't told anyone else this much about myself. She was the first one I oficially admitted my eating disorder to. I always carry paper and a pen around, in case I stumble upon a funny/scary/awkward/annoying/sad situation i want to tell her about. I'm just really glad I found her!
